    These hats are traditionally worn by village chiefs in the Cameroon region of central Africa, with bird feathers meticulously hand sewn onto a raffia basket base that opens out in a large circle. Feathers are considered rare objects of beauty and a symbol of prosperity and wealth. These hats are an example of the fine, unique and skilful artistry found in central west Africa. The pygmy hat is used as wall-mounted decoration in modern homes of today.
